Understanding is separate from checking
People may verify a certificate without understanding how the construction was found. A successful check or an AI-generated explanation alone does not establish human understanding.
- Full concerns the central contribution. Open questions about broader consequences or physical interpretation do not lower it.
- Partial needs a specific unexplained part of the central reasoning.
- Few means little understanding, not a small number of people.
When human understanding is undocumented, we use Few by default. The record distinguishes missing information from an explicit report of limited understanding.
